Uncompromised Security
Safety, Built In From the Start
We believe peer-to-peer car sharing should be stress-free — that's why Roamkin is built with rigorous reliability and verification protocols.
Strict Identity Verification
Every account requires official document upload (National ID and Driving Licence, front and back; passport optional) and a verification selfie. Identity documents are reviewed manually by authorised Roamkin staff, and access to them is restricted.
Structured Damage Reporting
Hosts must submit an initial damage report within 24 hours of the recorded return and any final, evidence-backed claim within 48 hours. A later claim is considered only for latent damage with a documented reason and evidence. Roamkin sends the renter the itemised claim within 24 hours, the renter has 48 hours to respond, and Roamkin aims to decide within five business days; either party may request a review within three business days. Any undisputed deposit is released within 24 hours of being determined, and if the Host stays silent for 48 hours Roamkin reviews within two Zimbabwe business days and then initiates release within 24 hours absent a credible claim.
3-Strike Host Cancellation Policy
Owners face a warning on the first cancellation, a final warning on the second, and automatic suspension on the third. If a host cancels a confirmed booking, the renter receives a 100% refund of prepaid charges.
Vehicle Verification Standards
Every listing is reviewed by our admin team before it can go live — registration documents, insurance and photos are checked, and the host completes KYC verification. Listing approval is an administrative review and does not certify the vehicle or the host’s compliance. Vehicles carrying the Roamkin Certified badge have additionally passed a physical condition check.
Evidence-Based Dispute Handling
Check-in and check-out photos are timestamped on every trip, so a damage report is reviewed against what the vehicle actually looked like. Missing evidence does not automatically decide liability — Roamkin considers all reliable evidence, and decisions can be appealed.
Insurance and Vehicle Protection
Roamkin is not an insurer and does not provide insurance merely because a booking is made. Every host must hold valid motor insurance that expressly permits paid rental use, and must disclose the insurer, policy period, limits, excess, exclusions and claims contacts before you book. Our team checks the submitted certificate and visible policy details before a listing goes live — an administrative review, not an underwriting decision or a guarantee that a particular claim is covered.
What a policy covers is set by the host's insurer, not by Roamkin. Before you take the keys, check the insurance documents and roadside assistance details; if anything is missing, expired or looks invalid, do not take the vehicle and report it to Roamkin. Read the Insurance and Vehicle Protection policy.
Know Exactly Where You Stand
Cancellation refunds scale with the notice you give before the confirmed pickup, and peak season uses longer notice periods.
Standard Season
Applies outside peak travel periods| Notice Given | Refund |
|---|---|
| 60+ days before pickup | 100% |
| 30–59 days before pickup | 50% |
| Under 30 days before pickup | 0% |
Peak Season
December, August, and Good Friday to Easter Monday| Notice Given | Refund |
|---|---|
| 90+ days before pickup | 100% |
| 60–89 days before pickup | 50% |
| Under 60 days before pickup | 0% |
Peak season is 1–31 December, 1–31 August, and Good Friday through Easter Monday inclusive (Africa/Harare time). If any part of your trip overlaps a peak date, the peak rules apply to the booking.
One day of notice means 24 elapsed hours before the confirmed pickup time, including weekends and holidays. Exactly 60 days (standard) or 90 days (peak) qualifies for a 100% refund; exactly 30 days (standard) or 60 days (peak) qualifies for 50%.
The percentage applies to the rental charges and Roamkin service fee you prepaid. An unused security deposit and any extras not provided are refunded in full. If the Host cancels, all prepaid charges are refunded in full.
Your season, exact cancellation deadlines and refund breakdown are shown before you pay and again before you confirm a cancellation.
Roamkin initiates an approved refund within one Zimbabwe business day after approval; your bank, EcoCash or card provider may take longer to show the funds. Pay at collection means you pay the service fee and any refundable security deposit online, and the rental balance directly to the Host at handover against a receipt. It offers less Host-cancellation protection because the rental balance is not paid in advance: if the Host cancels, Roamkin can refund only what you prepaid online, and an unpaid rental balance is never collected automatically after a cancellation.
